I was attending university and just looking for a summer job to make some extra cash. I was working part time at an adult store and had been for over three years.

I've always been very sexual and I've always wanted to try some sort of modeling. The idea of making a lot of cash from my own home and setting my own hours doing something fun was very exciting!

I am a PC user. I don't have anything against Macs, PC is just what I'm used to. Plus, MFC (MyFreeCams) is my main home and their software only works on Windows.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy chatting with people everyday! My "regulars" and new people. I enjoy making new friends from all over the world.

What do you like least about your work?
I don't like that I feel like I have to hide it from my family. I dislike that other people look down on me for doing this job and I don't like that I care so much about what they think.
How much longer do you think you’ll be a webcam performer?
I'm not sure. I imagine I'll be doing it until I decide to have children. I don't believe there is anything wrong with camming while you have children, it's just always been my dream to be a housewife and take care of the house and the kids.

Once my kids are of school age, I think I'll probably go back to school. Who knows? I'm just trying to take it one step at a time. For right now, I love camming.

What advice would you give someone who is considering being a webcam model?
I would tell them to pick a schedule and stick to it. Work those hours no matter what, because you are definitely going to have slow days! You need to discipline yourself and be there when you say you are going to be there. Treat it like any other job and don't expect it to be super easy. It's hard work.

Furthermore, I would HIGHLY recommend focusing less on the amount of money you are making online and just having fun while you are there! It usually leads to more money anyways, because your customers will see you are having fun and enjoy their time with you.

I was in the middle of attending university and took a break at the time. I was looking for a way to make extra income while not in school. Basically I saw it as a way to work from home and make a decent income.

Why do you want to be a camgirl?

It seems when I asked around of why some start webcaming and are now in the huge ranks of being a camgirl it seems they are doing it for the same reasons of why people would be choose to work from home or just want a job. Camgirls make up a huge part of the work at home community even though they aren’t as openly talked about as work at home parents or telecommuting jobs. Being a camgirl means you are a small business owner and you work for yourself.

For me being a camgirl was some what of an easy choice I guess because of the way it was introduced to me I went to visit an associate and his girlfriend was caming in the living room. They had their living room set up in this unique way with 3 beds, 3 computers, 3 video cameras and there were bright pod lights up above in their small bungalow house. She asked me if I want to try it I wasn’t even sure what to do but I quickly figured it out, since this generation are pretty much tech savy. I would hope all have experienced being in a chat room it was pretty easy to get the chat room going and eventually it was filled with members waiting to spend money.

I got a rush from it and it was exciting I was being seen but I couldn’t see them and they were going crazy asking me all these questions and wanting more. I was 18 years old at the time with not much job experience in fact being a camgirl was my first job EVER I mean EVER. At the time I wasn’t happy with my family and we had a lot of problems going on so the idea of being able to work without having job experience in a pretty simple way intrigued me so in about a week I was set up and making money.

Speaking from experience when I started caming back in 2003 up until present day I never really had a business plan of what I want to gain from being a camgirl, I knew I would make money and the money was stable but as for my goals and what type of qualify I wanted I never stopped to consider I was just going through the motions which now that is what causes burn-out and lost of motivation.

Every since the webcam has been invented you will see women using it to manipulate and create their own fame. There is a phrase in the documentary movie “Camgirls” that with an internet connection and webcam your no longer famous for 15 minutes your now famous to 15 people. I believe now in the last 10 years or so there is about over 1000s girls online who are considered camgirls and I am one of them. In 2003 I was introduced to a webcam never really knew anything about it never had one in the home and never seen a webcam site on the net. I have seen porn sure but nothing live and in real time expect for using msn messenger back then msn was just chat with no cam feature as it is today.

They say the very first web camgirl site out there was the Jennicam. Jenni made her site back in 1996 ! until about 2003. Her webcam archives are all over the net so that is something to consider when you become a camgirl your image is pretty much immortal. It is reported that Jenni cam went off to work in a web design firm and as far as we know she has no plans of bringing back jennicam, but her image lives forever as long as someone has a photo from her cams. I never got to experience viewing the Jennicam by time I got involved with being a webcam model the site was taken down.

Her segment in the documentary is very insightful. Thressa has also wrote a book called Camgirls: Celebrity and a community in the age of social networks. Being a camgirl, is it right for me?

So you think webcaming is easy right? You just buy a webcam, some toys and lingerie, create a website or join a webcam site and the money comes rolling in, right? Well not exactly being a camgirl is more complex then people think. Yes owning a webcam and being broadcast live on the internet is the most important part of it but you have to be able to transform yourself into a new persona. Webcamgirls are expected to be fun, flirty and have confidence while being sexy, even when you don’t feel like you are those things. Plus what is also a big misconception of being a camgirl is what type of skills we have to be making money from having a webcam live on the internet. We need business sense, customer service skills and patience. This article will shine some light of what it’s like to be a camgirl and hopefully give you more information of deciding if webcaming is right for you. Becoming a camgirl means that your opening yourself up to a new world, you have to learn as you go, and this is a business that you have to be flexible and ready for change all the time. If you have ever worked in a customer service environment of dealing with i-rate customers you will soon learn quickly how to deal with them and also how to problem solve. The most important part of it all is keeping your cool and always have a smile on your face.

Something to consider if you decide to be a camgirl, for me it never really crossed my mind until the issue came up. When friends, family and co-workers find out what you do. The odds of someone finding out what you do are pretty slim for them to psychically find out what you’re doing on the internet. If they are a porn surfer themselves or if you leak out the information to someone they can find out. There are precautious you can take if you feel you have to protect yourself on the internet if you decided to start webcaming, but in all honesty that will just make you go crazy.

Some webcam sites offer blocking where you are able to block your country,state/province or zip/postal code. Keep in mind that feature is created by the website themselves they can remove it which a lot of websites have been to increase traffic and profits. So now the other option of protecting your own privacy is to make sure you do not leak out personal information in your chat room and take photos on your profile that do not show your face, but it will be hard since men are visual creatures and they will not spend money on something they can not see.

You can also use IP masking and other internet securities that can help. If you are really worried and a bit paranoid that someone will find out about your caming career. But do you really want to make your job more complicated then what it is or do you want to be able to have a source of income and some level of job secruity. You could bite the bullet and tell your friends and family yourself which might be something you want to do if you decide to tell them you have to be prepared for their reactions and give them space to react if they do not come out and tell you what they think about it right away. You also have to remember you are an adult you are able to make your own decisions and choose the path of your own life. Plus when it comes from you when you’re telling your friends or family the blow does come out softer. If your still not sure this is right for you, ask yourself “Do you feel comfortable being desired and admired by men?" and also would you be embarrassed if someone asked you about it. If you hesitated or even said yes to those two questions, this might not be the right career choice for you.

The internet is pretty much forever archives can be pulled up at any moment once you click broadcast now your image is immortalized. A life coach once told me that you should not feel any shame or blame for being a camgirl or anyone who works in the sex trade industry this is honest hard work. Your providing a service and your treating your customers with the respect and dignity any customer deserves. There are people out there who claim to be honest hard working in high profile jobs who are ruining peoples lives suchs as those people who are in the investment and brokerage firms out there.
